    • How it works

Appetite Boost is based on a Chinese herbal formula called San Ren Tang, used to relieve symptoms such as headache, loss of appetite, fatigue, weight loss and generalised pain.

Clinical studies suggest that this formula reduces the severity of digestive disorders, such as gastroenteritis, colitis and bacterial dysentery.

      Traditional understanding

Semen Armeniacae Amarum regulates the Lung Qi and allows it to descend, improving the both the intake and distribution of oxygen, Fructus Amomi Rotundus aromatically arouses the spleen and pancreas and transforms dampness (turbid fluid accumulation), firing up the digestive system. It also loosens the chest. Semen Coicis drains dampness by promoting urination, and simultaneously strengthens the spleen and pancreas function. Medulla Tetrapanacis, Herba Lophatheri, and Talcum also clear dampness and heat via the urination. In addition, Talcum clears summer heat and Medulla Tetrapanacis aids in directing the lung Qi downward (improving oxygen intake). Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis and Rhizoma Pinelliae transform phlegm and eliminate dampness by activating Qi (oxygen) circulation as well as reducing nausea and abdominal distension.

This formula is used to treat damp-heat (hot and turbid/purulent) conditions characterized by more dampness than heat, especially chronic dampness conditions. It is not suitable for hot and dry patterns. As many of the herbs act to eliminate dampness via the urination, urinary frequency may increase.
